The Mount Community Farm Garden is in Freystrop near Haverfordwest. The Community Garden is the first of its kind in this area but is a concept known to all in cities across the nation. Mount Community Farm Garden is funded by NationalGrid who are strong supporters of environmental community projects.
The idea behind our Community Farm Garden is to introduce newcomers from our locality to the process of planting, growing and eating naturally grown vegetables and fruits as an alternative to supermarket mass produce. We have small plots of a variety of plants that demonstrate how easy it is to cultivate anything in a small area. If vegetables aren’t your 'thing', we also have a selection of perennials that will brighten up any space, no matter how small.
We follow the principals of natural and recycle; this means that we minimize the use of chemicals to encourage plant growth and we recycle anything and everything from unwanted vegetable peelings for compost to old tyres for planters.
Many of us take for granted that we live in a blessed part of the country, surrounded by beautiful countryside and beaches but there are still many among us who do not or can not appreciate what is on our doorstep. Recently we discovered that some of our local children were lacking some basic knowledge, for example, that milk comes from cows or that a chip is made from a potato and that they had never visited a beach. The Community Farm Garden is our way of opening up a different world to youngsters and adults alike who do not normally have the opportunity to participate in our world.
Everyone is welcome to view our gardens Monday to Friday, 10 until 3; what's more important to us is that you are so enamoured by your visit that you want to join us and get involved in the planting and growing, we are grateful for all the help we get!
